Google Cloud has two types of Network Service Tiers: Premium Tier and Standard Tier. You may wonder which one is better between the two tiers. Based on the naming convention, we already know that Premium Tier is considered better than Standard Tier. However, let's take a closer look at the differences between them..
Premium Tier traffic is delivered over Google global network infrastructure. This network is well-provisioned, low-latency, and highly reliable. Google global network includes more than 100 Points of Presence (PoPs) connected closely to end-user ISPs around the world.

Standard Tier is a newer offering designed for lower cost. This network tier provides network quality comparable to other public cloud providers, but it generally offers lower performance than Google Cloud Premium Tier.

Standard Tier has complex traffic routing because the traffic is not fully delivered through Google private global network, but instead relies more on ISP networks.

I created two instances with the same specifications but different network tiers.
The vm-premium instance had a minimum response time of 114 ms, while vm-standard had a minimum response time of 142 ms. This ping test proves that the Premium Tier provides better response times than the Standard Tier.
Note: The results of this test may vary because network traffic is dynamic, and results can differ for each test.
